Figure i ask and see if anyone has installed a car computer here?
I have been looking at mini macs and other 12v computer but there wanting big money for those ……but I am trying to find a cheaper way by using a laptop?? Anyone tried this ?

not knocking you or anything billy boy but outside of huge amounts of music storage and dvd based nav and maybe video capabilities what else would u use it for ... i have heard carputers but didn't fully understand.

Well having my 150g of music will be nice especially on road trips!!!! Having the ability to play any pc games, movie formats, and run emulators for other game systems like Nintendo, ps1, ps2 etc in one piece would be a cool toy... :) Then you add GPS and if you get bored you can stop at any wifi area or someone’s open wireless network and dload away..... If you have more than on person with a carputer you could file share down the road, and message each other ....... think of it... the next time your at a car show and you get bored you could sit in your truck and file share music, video, pictures, send im's..... anything with anyone........ :)

IF you hook up your cell phone you can be on the net at the same time....Might not be something you can play with to much while driving…. put your passenger's will love it!!!!!!!

well what do you want to know about using a pc in a car? all you need is a pc, monitor of some type (if not using a laptop), and a inverter for power. let me know what you need and i'll help you out.

i'm working on building a brief case pc right now and after i do that i might build a small pc for the car. i want to built a couple of these and then sell them.

i can see it being useful to roadtrips but when i'm at a show sending ims and file sharing at the alst thing on my mind i mean you got beer booty and trucks.... what more do u want

true but there are sometimes when the shows are slow and there's nothing to do. plus it's a good way to store your music for the show.

not to mention emptying the memory card on your camera right there at the show, so when its full you can save your pics and then get more of the booty and trucks... woot :clap:

On the laptop being used...I have been looking for one with a svideo out on it so i can hook it straight in to my alpine radio but im not sure how its going to work? Will video look good, look good for game play or will i need to find away to use a small pc monitor.. Will the hard drive hold up to the air ride :) and can the power button on the laptop be easily run to the dash to turn it on and off.... It's windows ..going to need the ability to reset when it locks up!!! MY goal was to use my old mac g3 but i cant get the MAC os off and linux on!!!

Just my luck a day late and a dollar short :) Thats an awesome setup he did on spyderchat.. i was thinking that some of those mini bare bone systems might work too.. woot.com had one today for 119.00.. if i had the extra money, i would have bought it!!!.....

well honestly i haven't done much more with it. i had bought a case but it wasn't enough clearence between the montior and video card. i need one thats a little deeper. i need to get back into looking for one. i'll have to order from online prob. i've been to everystore in town.
