I'm going sometime, not sure when. But don't be hatin' on the Sport Compacts. There was a 11sec. Civic HB that whooped a Mustang Mach 1 two weeks ago when they were open for a Test & Tune.

I have to agree with Joey on this one, I've seen plenty of "American Muscle" get walked by sport compacts, a couple of times it was Domestic cars with wide Mickey Thompson slicks losing to Imports on street tires.
The street wars are fun to go watch, but for the drive it takes to get there from Norfolk, I'd rather go for an event weekend type thing.

yea joey i saw that HB. but i thought it ran 10s. but yea we went and checked out his car in the parkin lot. that is one badass honda (and i really dislike hondas) you shoulda seen his setup. he said he could get into the 9s and he only sprays at the start to spool up the turbo. but did you see the avenger beat the srt-4? ;)

I think his first run was a low 12 against a LX Mustang. Then I think he hit 11s against the Mach 1. I know there is a video of him making his runs on dragVa. I'll try to find them.

I believe he ran a 14.7?

naw he made two passes. first he ran a 14.19 and the second time (against the srt-4) he ran a 14.06. the guy that owns the venge is a buddy of mine. theres a vid of his run against the srt-4. i'll try and find it if you want.

I agree. Yes a Civic can beat a Mustang, but with a **** load of money. To make a Civic fast you better have over $5,000 in it. And if you ask me, that's a ****ing waste.

whats even funnier is the fact that if you really want to get into amercan vs. import pricing then maybe you should look at talon/eclipse/laser 1g's the awd turbo. find one for about 2 g's and spend about 2-3 g's and you have a mid 12 to low 13 second car now you tell show me a mustang that runs that for 4-5 g's

a talon will run even faster without the roof too...right roy?... woot woot

I agree civics can be fast as all hell but it takes quite a bit more cash to do so as compared to some american cars. And why are mustangs the basis of all american muscle. A Mustang should go in the low 13s for 2 grand but a newer Camaro SS will do that with exhaust and an air lid. Dollar for dollar, you can boost and spray all you want, theres no replacement for displacement.

Roy has a good point though you can pic up the 1g talons, eclipses and laser awd turbos for practically nothing. A few grand later those cars are insane. Ive seen quite a few of them at the track i go to with just a few grand in them dipping into the low 12s. Theres even one running 11s.

Still not worth it though, Those DSM's break down A LOT. You're going to have to have a lot of money put away so you can fix it. So really, it's not going to be just 2 grand to get into the 12's its going to be a lot more when you're going to be fixing it... But yeah, those Turbo model DSM's can be made really fast with little money. Probably the best bang for the buck car you can get, but it's not reliable, and modding it to be that fast is going to make the reliability be worst that it already was.
Btw, you said a new Camaro SS will run low 13s with an exhaust an air lid, They can run 12s with just a good driver and some slicks. I've seen it..

to be honest there not as unreliable as people think, i mean they are pretty damn unreliable but theres worse. if you treat it like a normal car and dont launch at every light or stop sign , lol , keep oil changes up you know just typical stuff it can be a really decent car. there are a few things that you have to do if you want to keep it reliable performance wise like upgrade clutch, for some reason they made a worthless pos clutch with one of the best made transmissions, upgrade the rear end if its an older model and a few small things here and there and some sane driving then it can be a nice reliable car. granted once you start hittin 11's with most cars your gonna start to break stuff. btw its nice to have a decent conversation without people gettin mad in this post lol

You guys can argue the American vs. Import thing til you're blue in the face.
Just to add my take on it, I'd rather spend a few thousand on a CRX that is just as fast as a Mustang that is over 15-20 thousand.

Yea it is nice to have a civil conversation for a change. Import or Domestic, 2 or 20 grand a fast car is a fast car IMO. I think its all a matter of preference, people favor certain brands and every car has its advantages. If youve got skill and money anything is possible with any car.

**** as long as it remains a discussion and not an argument then ill do it till im blue lol, but anyways ive never really been much of a crx person. theres a drag crx at the performance dyno shop up here in winchester well a couple of drag cars. hahah i just rememebered why not just take a 100 dollar colt and drop a 4g63t in it. lol now thats bang for the buck

Yeah, but comparing a modded car to a stock one is dumb.
Btw, beating a stock Mustang is nothing to brag about regardless of what kind of car it is. To me, anything slower than 12s is nothing to brag about.

i dont think stock price should have anything to do with the overall comparison. If that were the case then we muscle car guys can say this: $500 1970 nova, 3 grand in a big block and trans build, a set of slicks and the proper safety equipment and you have yourself a high 10 second car. I know this because thats what my dads previous race car was. total investment was around 5 grand and that car would run 10.50s all day long

We were on the topic of how much money is put into imports to make them fast. All I was pointing out was that you could have a pretty sick cheap import for the price of the popular American muscle car. The whole "Bang for the Buck" discussion.
Personally, I'm happy to see anything quick that isn't a Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, or Nova. I like to see the original stuff, where someone was actually thinking about what to build, and didn't just buy a car and call up JEG's and max out their credit cards. Cars like a Yugo with a supercharged smallblock (seen it), a Morris Minor with a supercharged smallblock (seen it), wheelstanding Oldsmobile Acheivas (seen plenty, but still cool), or a Chevette with a Cadillac 500 (a magazine built one a while back), are what grab my attention.
