Okay...so I was thinking the other night...

In my Focus, the dash lights are the normal green and orange colors. That's the gauages, headunit, and all that. In my mom's VW, her dash lights are blue and red and they look a helluva lot better than green.

So what I'm asking is there a way to change out the bulbs so I can do that? I don't think anyone has added some VW flavor to a Focus before.

I can take some pictures tonight so you can see the blue and red if you've never seen it.

Pull the dash apart and just swap bulbs

If I'm not mistaken, your mom's VW just might have actual indiglo guages, resulting in brilliant colors. There are colored "condoms" that you can put over clear bulbs to get different colors, but they hinder some of the light that passes through, and colored bulbs tend to be lighter than you think once they are lit. I actually have blue bulbs in my guage cluster, and it really isn't that noticeable over the white that were originally there.

I guess what I'm saying is, it can be done, but it's usually more work than the effect it creates.

Great question....mine is the same...green and orange. I am positive though that it is an orange overlay. Looks like I will have to change everything...I want red or blue.....have ideas?

When I had an explorer back in the day (1995), I took apart my dash to try the same thing. i found out that the green was the plastic itself not just a bulb cover thingy. i dont know if it would be different or not in your case. just take it apart and see.

YEa all you have to do is change the bulbs to colord ones and if they dont make the colors you can get covers. I tihnk thats is how either NIcks second truck or scotts truck was done...

You can use the colored bulbs in most cases, but depending on your factory gauges it might not work. Some of the cars and trucks actually have clear bulbs with the factory green, red, orange ect as the overlay. Its worth it just to buy a new gauge face the bulbs look cheesy anyway.

or just scratch the color off the overlay and put some colored bulbs
