on my last order i did from APC I got these lights called litestripes. They are a very thin material that glows. The casing that they have on them makes them less then a 1/4 of an inch then and about 3/8ths of an inch wide. They are also water proof so they can be mounted on the outside of the vehicle, these things are sweet.
They come in blue, red or green. One set has two 5ft. lengths that come w/ it. I'm mounting the ones that I odered for myself on the (in)sides of my bed, they light thing up pretty damn good. They may not be as bright as neons but they are close. and were else can you get lighting that you can cut and still work and also be able to reuse the individual pieces you cut off! I love this stuff! take a look at the attached image.

Might not be too bad if you are using them as dome lights, or bed lights when your tonneau is open, etc. Just please don't drive around with that kind of crap on, it looks rediculous. It can be done tastefully if you take your time, and hide all the necessary wiring and whatnot.

I think the ones he is refering to are ment for interior decorating, this product was originally developed by NASA as a lighter, longer lasting light source for use on shuutles, they also developed it to use as markers for whatever, like steps and such.

It was then adopted by the home iterior decorating companies as a way to add style and color to homes that wouldn't take up an enormus amount of space, the actual product is like a milimeter thick, very thin stuff.

Now automotive companies have taken advantage of it and encased it in a waterproof casing that is durable and can be manipulated.

the only problem w/ useing the ones that are for home use is there power sorce, there power source is ment for a 120v AC system, you would have to make a new power unit for a 12v system. I believe the system that powers then is similar to the one that runs normal neon tubes but actually puts out around half the power

yea i think they would look ghey on the outside of the vehicle. but they way you plan to use them actually sounds cool. like they would look cool outlining a bed and tonneau cover that has been tweeded or carpeted or whatever. and in the interior as long as it's done tastefully and not all tacky.
