ill save you alot of trouble and just make your decision for you....
TWEED!!! its alot easier and it wont look as 'cheap'....unless you made a custom dash and covered it in faux leather vinyl....i would say tweed all the way...
vinyl is horrible to work with..doesnt stretch like tweed...and for a dash you definately will have to be stretchin it in different shapes....
trust me...
i do custom upholstry...and i dont even take on many vinyl jobs...

Vinyl is a ***** to work with and most of it looks cheesy. Tweed is easy to work with and it looks nice but its getting to be an eye sore considering its in every truck and car you see. Why not try something different?

Is there another type of fabric that can be used besides tweed? I wouldn't use vinyl either. There has to be another option available other then tweed and Vinyl. The only thing is that it would have to be protected against fading caused by the sun.

also why not consider glassing the dash, and for the larger areas of the dash do some kind of design, (were there are like large flat spots) I don't know if you get what im saying if not i'll explain more.

good point .. tweed is getting old.. but it still works.. just dont go putting leopard skin or zebra stripe, thats gettin played out as bad as tweed, i personally like the suede interiors, or you could allways go with gaudy gucci.. just go to a good fabric n' crafts store and start browsin through the fabrics.. i do that alot.. find some neat stuff, just make sure itll contour to the curvers easily

yes but another thing that needs to be looked at is wether or not it is a fabric that will be UV resistant, resistant against fading.

yeah..its hard to find suede that is uv treated......alot of the custom suedes in cars arent......
suede is definately pimp **** though....id love to do my interior in leather and suede...its expensive as hell too
what is supposed to becoming the 'new thing' which i think will end up like gucci....is the ostrich.....
you can get ostrich vinyl..and do inserts or you can buy a hyde(about 10 yards) for around 400+

tweed is seen alot in cars...but if its clean..in my opinion..it looks good...
everything gets old after a while...it just depends on what you can do to make it better...

but there isnt many choices when it comes to doin your interior.

leather, vinyl, tweed, troll hair(not inteded for automotive interiors), velvet, and glassed and painted...

of those..tweed is the easiest and cheapest
