alright, i found a cheap cold air intake for my truck on ebay...while i was on there, i found a real good price on a Helix Motorvator Throttle Body spacer.

I know a lot of people say they dont work, but just as many say they do. who has a TBS and is there a problem with the hood closing with it on? and did you notice any differance in response, gas milage?

thanks.......................(edit) oh ya, i have a 4.3 vortech.

What kind of intake, Dan? You gotta be careful with some of those eBay intakes. I'd stay away from Bomz. I know they also make intakes for other vechiles besides the Focus. They are an AEM Replica.

And about the throttle body spacer...I know you just can't slap one up there and expect to get a the gains they may advertise. You have to have other modifications like an intake and exhaust. If you have to much flow, and not enough opening, you will lose power and bog down. That's my problem right now. I have my intake, stock throttle body, and stock exhaust. So you have to have a whole set-up in order for it to work like it should.

And if I am wrong, somebody please correct me.

well i dont know about your truck, but ive heard alot of people with trucks like mine say that TB's dont work, in many cases decrease performance and all that. but they are still around and people buy em, so its gotta work on something....

well, i have an aftermarket exhaust...and i'll have an aftermarket intake with the throttle body spacer on it. if anything i'll just take it off, and sell it on ebay for twice what i payed for it, cuz its worth 80 and i payed 40...

here is the intake and TBS i bought.

TBS (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=33558&item=2462162675&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWN%3AIT)

that intake doesn't look like to be much. is it jus the chrome piece? it's not the actual whole intake? did you buy it for 30 bucks? remember you get what you pay for sometimes. i woulda jus got a K&N or Volant or something like that. i'ma ****** get the K&N intake for my s10.

i want a volant or airaid for mine, this was 30 bucks and comes with a red reuseable cone filter...its just till i have the money to get a good one... you never know, it might work fine.

Well, I am more partical to the Volant intake myself. :D

But in all reality, a intake is a intake as a intake is to another intake. They are all pretty much the same and most gains are the same. Full-length intakes seem to be a little bit better since they get further away from the engine and can get a little bit more cleaner and cooler air, but I don't know if they make those for trucks. I've only ever seen short-ram's for trucks.

ahh, ok gotcha. yea i jus made my own intake for mine untill i get the K&N.

Joey - that's true. yes they sorta do make full-length intakes. K&N's is a full-length i guess. a lot of them tho aren't ****** as long as the CAI's for cars.

an intake is an intake...what are all intakes composed of? a pipe and a filter...how many differences can there be? granted some may be better than others...but not by much....

That's one thing I don't get. You have a K&N Filter hooked up to your stock airpipe and it's like you got better gains out of that. What a crock. I spend $275 on my intake and you spent $40 on your filter.

thats all a FIPK is....the filter and some pipes....and they wanted like 250...i dont think so. pvc and the 46 dollar cone and im in business.

what can i say...im always thinking

i figured paying 30 bones for something someone else charges almost 200 for was a good deal, couldnt pass it up, same thing on the TBS, those are normally 80 bucks

I bought the k&n bout a month or 2 ago and it sounds alot better and is a little quicker at higher speeds. Gas mileage increased a little bit I guess. I get around 280+ avg on a tank, its the 4.3 btw.

I know if you get the K&N intake system that you cant use a TBS.

Big what was your gas mileage before you got your intake? I'm sucking on gas mileage here.

yeah, i got the K&N FIPK for mine. all it is is a breather that sits on top, same as the edlebrocks and all that, except for 120 bucks more, had i known that earlier i wouldve gotten the K&N filter and then just the top and lower lids...but it does look damn good, and ive only had to clean it twice

it was like 260-280 but I get 280-290 guaranteed now it seems. Could get more out of it probably but I always fill up when the gas light comes on lol.

alot of people off of s10forum say that the k&n fipk plus a tbs will not clear the stock hood by like and inch or so but that intake looks like it doesn't replace the hat on top of the tbi unit so i think u should be okay and i know this is a little late but if u search for the seller chromeintakes on ebay he sells a full chrome intake for the 2nd gen tbi motors that replaces everything from the tbi hat to the filter for like &70 i think so u can get rid of that ugly accordion tube gm loves to slap on all their cars

well, this is only till i come into some money, then i am going to buy a better one if i'm unhappy with that one. But i put the TBS on saturday, drove my truck around yesterday after me and adam finished putting my KP Customs 4-link in, and all i notice is a whistle when i hit the gas, maybe better gas mileage, gotta go through a tank or two before i know.

Well, i got my TBS in friday and threw it in saturday, here's what it looks like

It gives a pretty good whistle if i have the gas pushed pretty good... not sure about anything else. Haha, at least it looks cool under the hood, right  :D

In my opinion an intake is an intake, with aem and k&n youre just buying the name, that fancy ass tube doesnt make much of a difference to most people. As far as the TBS ive never heard anyone say good things about them as far as performance goes. Just my opinion.

i have that on my truck and it fits. it does touch the pad unter the hood though...but thats no big deal.
maybe i was wrong

i built my own CAI, and if i had to it over again (which i just might), i would reuse that accordian tube. Now all i gotta do is fabricate a heat shield....

oops...no you were right. i misread your post. the tbs and the k&n kit will not fit. cause the k&n kit itself barely fits.

Have you noticed any difference in Gas Mileage since you put it on?

02sonoma

Thanks for the info.. I'm trying to figure how to get more Gas Mileage out of the gas guzzler. Have you done anything with the Exaust System on your truck?

i have the K&N On my truck.. It replaces ALL the stock intake parts, and comes with a heatsheild. I also installed a new butterfly in the throttle body, descreened the MAF, and got a TPS Tec.

TBS is useless on our trucks. Because we're multi point fuel injection the air has already "lost it's vortex" one could say by the time is gets to the injectors and it doesn't help mix it any more than stock. If you had a TBI motor, then it'd make a difference (and a noticable one at that). The heads do plenty for the mixing, hense the name Vortec. I had and airaid one on for about 2000 miles and noticed NO change in gas mileage when computing before, while it was on and afterwards. If it's touching your hood, I'd take it off and sell it back on e-bay if it was me. JMHO

I just have a 40 series muffler, welded that on the stock pipe and put a turn down on it, i didnt do a complete system.
