Hey, I was just wondering if any of you guys did any fiberglass work on here? I would like a custom rear panel built to fit either 2 6x9s on the deck or 2 6.5"s. Also I am looking for some custom door panels too if anyone knows people who do them or if there is a site that has any of this stuff. Thanks-alot.

If you have pictures of something similar to what you want done that would help a lot

We are in VA Beach, but I must warn you, we wouldnt be able to do it for the next few weeks, were swamped.

Yea that's cool about the time. I am not in a real big rush. I am at work right now but I will get some pictures of the rear panel when I get home and a picture of the door panel and try to show you want I want done. Thanks.

I dabble in fiberglassing, haven't done anything real huge to a finishing point yet. I got started on the dash of our shop truck, and have done some other stuff.

A couple samples of my work:

Gotta start with something:

Finished product:

Center speaker cap, along with a 3rd brake light that I made for the rear window:

wow dude. That's pretty good work for a first timer. Do you use like chicken wire to map out the design or what? Also do you use just plain fiberglass or do you use a mixture of fiberglass and wood pulp? Elite Audio in Newport News said they would make me custom kick panels and they used a mixture of fiberglass and wood pulp. But they were a little pricey for me.

Yeah, as Adam said, I'm a composite repair tech. in the Navy repairing fiberglass and carbon fiber aircraft parts. When I say I've dabbled, I meant in a custom sort of way. I've made many things for different people, along with repairing body kits etc. I use just straight fiberglass or graphite, never heard of adding wood to anything. I use fleece or any other type of stretchy cloth to make designs with, or just build wood molds.
I'm a little modest about my skills though, I don't like to give people the idea that I'm an expert at custom 'glass work, but I'm willing to give anything a try, it will only better my approach.

And how much would you charge to do some custom panels then?

As Adam said, we are a bit swamped in the shop right now and are concentrating on what we have, but if you can get some pictures of what you've got and some drawings of what you want them to look like, I'll gladly give you an estimate and maybe we can set something up once I can make some time.

alright, I'll take some pictures as soon as I can get a chance. Is there any range you would think it'll be in? thanks a bunch guys.

It really depends on the amount of material I'll need to use, the man hours I put into it, and the complexity of the job. The work I put into my truck with the center console, speaker box cap, and 3rd brake light would probably run around $100 and took me about a weekend to do.
